Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of controlling a hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the options are limited since you won't have root access to the web server, so you may only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They are all actions which are carried out within the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access is offered with all Linux cloud hosting which we provide. With some of them, it's featured as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade you can add with a couple of mouse clicks from your web hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you will also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password which you will use and, if necessary, you'll be able to change it with several clicks from the same spot. All commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You'll be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account through SSH regardless of which package you select when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is included by default, and with others, it may be included as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll find the needed login information in the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You can select the password that you'll use and if you want to, you may change it on a regular basis with a couple of clicks for even higher security. You'll be able to see all the commands you can use upfront, because we have listed them all along with examples of how they are used to accomplish a specific task. The moment SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is allowed, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server plans feature SSH access by default, so you will not need to include any upgrades or enable anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've selected through the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions with regards to the commands that you may run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage virtually everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you can work with your files, databases and any apps that you install in a fast and risk-free way.
